Dear AKANA Family
Members:
The Living Legends
VII Jerry Piddington Celebrity Roast is almost here. Let the
roasting begin. I want to thank all AKANA schools that
participated in purchasing a table in advance. You helped get the
ball rolling for an event that will make history. Most major
martial arts magazines have committed to covering the event. Also,
the event will be filmed for video release. It is not too late to
purchase reserved dinner tickets to the roast on Saturday evening.
Please do not put money in the mail at this late of a date. Call
1-800-560-5425 to order dinner tickets and/or sign up for seminars by
credit card. If you are planning on paying at the door, you must
let us know so that we can order your dinner. The Hilton has
increased the block of rooms for a Living Legends discount, but you need
to call as soon as possible. Call 1-704-547-7444 or visit www.charlotteuniversity.hilton.com.
This is going to
be a great sport karate reunion. We want everyone to be invited.
Please take a few minutes to call a few old or new martial arts
acquaintances. We have not reached several of the people receiving
an award. We are asking everyone to contact several people
confirming that they are coming to the event. Please leave us an
email on who you contacted at info@sidekickkarate.
You can refer them to the website, www.sidekickkarate.com,
or give them our phone number, 1-800-560-5425. Thank you in
advance for your time.
If anyone wants a
press release for your area newspaper, please
click here. For a detailed press story, please
click here. This is a good opportunity to help your school and
the event. If you are receiving an award, please add the
information to the press release. If you would like me to contact
your local paper, send me the name of the newspaper, contact person,
phone number, and email.
Bob Wall, Don
Wilson, Howard Jackson, Jeff Smith, Joe Lewis, and Mike Genova are
excited about coming to Charlotte. I encourage local area schools
to get involved in their seminars. This is a great opportunity.
There has never been an event like this in the Southeast.
Local school
owners, please encourage your young kids to attend the Mike Genova
Stranger Danger Safety Seminar. It does not matter how much
experience they have in martial arts. All kids will receive a big
medal for their attendance.
If you are
interested in the careers of Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris, the Bob Wall
History Seminar is where you want to be. Mr. Wall has been a
business partner with Chuck Norris for 38 years and was Bruce Lee's good
friend for 10 years. This will be held in a comfortable private
party suite.
The Living Legends
Seminar taught by Don Wilson, Joe Lewis, Jeff Smith, and Howard Jackson
will make history. Each pre-registered participant will get a
beautiful certificate signed by these Legends. There will also be
a group picture made. Attire can be workout clothes or karate
uniform. There will be no sparring.
If anyone is
interested in getting involved in martial arts films, do not miss the
Don "The Dragon" Wilson Breaking into the Martial Arts Film
Industry Seminar. This will also be in a private party suite after
the Living Legends Seminar.
Dinner will be
served at 7:00 p.m., Saturday evening. Guests will begin to arrive
at 6:00 p.m. Roasters include Joe Corley, Garry Dillingham, Larry
Bullard, Dennis Brown, Jeff Smith, Howard Jackson, Joe Lewis, Eva Leazer
Piddington, Bob Wall, and "The Charlotte Warhawks". If
you are a roaster, click here to see
the roasting rules of engagement.
Only Black Belts
may attend the reception on Friday night. Don Wilson, Joe Lewis,
Howard Jackson, Bob Wall, and many special guests will be at the
reception. Black Belts may bring your spouse or date. This
will be a great kickoff to the weekend.
We will have a
photo booth set up at the expo. It would be nice for all AKANA
Yudansha to have a professional picture made in their formal uniform
with their AKANA patch showing. There will be an individual
charge. I will use these pictures in the official AKANA manual and
history book. Please do not forget. Also, I would like to
take this rare opportunity to get a group shot of AKANA members and The
Charlotte Warhawks. AKANA will pay for the group pictures and make
them available.
We have had a
surge of AKANA memberships. There are two new AKANA dojo charters.
I would like to welcome the Five Animal Karate Academy in Eagle Point,
OR and the American Style Karate Team of Sandston, VA. I will have
an updated list of all AKANA members on the website in a few days.
I will bring certificates and membership cards to Living Legends next
weekend. I need a few volunteers to work our AKANA table at the
expo. Thanks!
The China Grove
SideKick Fall Kumite was a great success. I would like to thank
all the school owners who brought students. We had several new
schools to participate this year. Benny Phifer from the
Statesville Karate Sports and Fitness beat China Grove SideKick by one
student to take back the trophy for most students with a total of 40
participants. Wow! A big thanks to Garry Dillingham for
doing an awesome job. This was a great and well organized
tournament thanks to everyone, especially the ones that helped with the
mats.
See you on the
17th and 18th of October at the Charlotte Hilton University Place.
Take I-85 to Exit 45A Harris Blvd. East. The hotel is
approximately 1/4 mile on the left. There are plenty of shops and
restaurants along a nice lake within walking distance. Come to
have fun and celebrate the careers of the best sport karate fighters and
pioneers in America.
Congratulations to
our Hanshi. He better get ready to get roasted and toasted
in Charlotte, NC. A big thanks to Bob Wall and www.WorldBlackBelt.com
for making it possible to honor Hanshi. Make sure you bring your
WBB membership card to the event for discounts.
Sincerely,
Renshi Ricky Smith
