The black belt test was held January 7-9 in the foothills of Morganton, North
Carolina. The test was for all second level black belts, above the age of
eighteen. The test consisted of Sanchin, Mushin, and
Fire Breathing, along with Breaking, Kata, Waza, and some of the hardest
bare knuckle fighting you have ever seen. The
karata-ka that represented SideKick were: Sensei Talbert, Sr., Sensei Talbert, Jr., Sensei
Robert Taylor, and Renshi Ricky Smith. Kyoshi Danny McCall from Denver, N.C.
participated along with his son who was testing for Senior rank black belt. McCall
also had some of his instructors and students testing.
Everyone that test knows why Shihan is "The Shihan".
What a man! We love you Shihan and thank you for sharing your
knowledge and experience of the martial arts with us. You have
the God-given gift of bringing our abilities to a higher dimension and
helping us to believe in ourselves. We will never forget this
test and the bonds that were created with our fellow karate-ka will
live forever.
